Metacritic
We checked the Metacritic website to see how well different horror films did and how they were reviewed.
We noticed that paranormal films, e.g. Case 39 (2010), haven't been scored as high as some of the others sub-genres, despite their good reviews. This suggests to us that our trailer should not be focused on paranormal horror, as they are not popular, therefore, giving us the impression that our trailer should try to avoid paranormal. We then looked at other films and how they were scored, which were from various sub-genre's. From this we discovered that films with less gore were given higher scores and even better reviews.
We came to the conclusion that we may need to include limited amounts of gore, as Metacritic has given us the impression that blood and gore does not make a successful horror film. Perhaps blood and gore has become less associated with horror, as it is so commonly used in other film genres, such as, action films.
