Inspiration
Trailers
This trailer for ouija has inspired us in how we want our trailer to be like, we like the fact that the beginning of the trailer is the end of the opening title sequence which then unfolds to show us the rest of the trailer. we like this ideas showing the end of the opening title sequence as it allows the audience to get a small understanding of what is going on throughout the film without giving to much away which means they have to watch the whole film in order to find out what happens. The flashes of scary scenes that pop up are really effective, it shows us that the film is going to be frighting without giving it all away.
This trailer is also effective, it tells the story of the film which is good in this case as you need to know what is going on, but what it doesn't tell you is what happens in the end and during the events. Knowing that this film is based on a true story keeps the audience captivated to watch the full trailer as anything based on a true story instantly becomes more scary. The music in this trailer is really effective and we wanted to pay homage to it. the music in this scene is controversial to what is happening, the music is kind of like gosspel church choir which contradicts the trailer as this is all about the devil and its possession process so music about God we think is really effective as it plays on the divide between God and the Devil.
Possession Scene
A lot of inspiration was taken from a variety of different films (trailers) involving the possession of something or someone. We narrowed it down to a few trailers which we thought had the best possession scenes in them in order to get and idea on how we wanted our to look like.
The first possession scene we looked at was one from the film "the possession" This one is very different from the typical possession scenes, you do not see what or who is possession her all you know is that there is something inside the box. This scene is effective because it leaves us with a sense of fear and mystery as we do not know what the entity or spirit is. what also makes this scene more scary is the fact that it happens in broad daylight. Normally scenes like this would be done in the dark so having this done in day light is effective as the sense of safety is gone because the horror events could happen at any time, it makes the film become less predictable so you will always be unsure on what is going to happen next
In "The Conjuring" the possession is much more sinister. This type of possession is a lot more common in films, What we like about this possession scene is that it is so intense that you are made to carry on to watch to see what happens, Also unlike the first possession scene we looked at in this one there is a lot of people involved which creates chaos and panic in the scene. The location is somewhere we definitely want to film ours, In a cold, dark basement which is a typical horror location simply because it is so effective. It creates a fearsome atmosphere and the low lighting adds to that making it a lot more scarier than it being done in a well lite room.
